A card payment company has apologised after an outage affected card sales across the country.

Issues with sale terminals were reported at lunchtime yesterday and persisted into the evening.

Retailers such as SuperValu and Centra reported problems with customers unable to buy items using their debit cards.

A spokesperson for Opayo confirmed a technical issue was discovered with the system and teams were working to restore normal service.

The company has apologised to customers for the disruption and the issue is now resolved.
