3,500 suffered life changing injuries after a crash between 2014 and 2017 - Christmas road safety appeal launched

The RSA and Gardai have launched their Christmas road safety campaign.

The focus this year is on the serious injuries and life changes a road collision brings for those who survive.

The RSA and An Garda Siochana are calling on road users to act responsibly and safely this Christmas period.

This year's appeal was launched at the National Rehabilitaion Hospital - highlighting the serious injuries sustained in road traffic collisions.

3,578 people suffered life-altering injuries between 2014-2017 with vulnerable road users - motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists representing half off all serious injuries.

One of those was Laura Doherty - she was working as a doctor in Temple St. Children's Hospital before her accident:
