There are renewed calls for a co-ordinated approach to tackling gender based violence on International Women's Day.

Women's Aid says the government's strategy on domestic, sexual and gender-based violence must be improved.

Especially in areas of education, legal protection and support services.

One in four women in Ireland have suffered abuse at the hands of a current or former partner.

Women's Aid received 34,000 reports of physical, psychological and sexual violence in 2022.

CEO of Women's Aid, Sarah Benson says change is needed "to ensure that we can do better for those who are currently at risk."

She also said that a co-ordinated approach to tackle gender based violence is needed "to ensure that future generations are not going to be harmed by this form  of GBV."
