The temporary scheme is to help businesses during the winter months
A scheme to assist businesses with their energy costs during the winter months kicks in today.
The government's 1.2 billion euro Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme was approved by the European Commission yesterday.
Businesses that qualify will get up to 40% of the additional costs they are facing.
JP McMahon, a Galway chef, and restaurateur says businesses are really struggling with rising costs.
"That may be enough or it may not be enough and I suppose it's very difficult to tell at the moment and I think that you will see that a lot of businesses will realize it is not enough and then they will close before March."
"We're going to keep going and hope that it is enough".
JP McMahon clarified that it comes down to a lot of factors like how busy it is at Christmas.
