New FIFA rules to guarantee maternity leave for women footballers

FIFA has introduced new rules that will guarantee maternity leave and working conditions for players in the women's game.

Pregnant players will be able to take 14 weeks off and must be paid at least two thirds of their salaries by clubs.

Management can register a new player as cover for the maternity period, but are obliged to re-integrate the original player afterward.

While rules have also been added, banning clubs from terminating the contract of a player who is pregnant.
