A government TD says an online portal to report dangerous driving would help to save Garda time.

In the UK, a website for cyclists and drivers to upload footage has saved police officers there more than 68,000 hours of work.

Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon says a streamlined online system would allow gardai to review and investigate road incidents more quickly.

Deputy Cannon says a simple online system would help to make roads safer for everyone:

"This would be open, bear in mind, to all road users not just cyclists - anybody who uses a dashcam, be it on their windscreen or on their bicycle.

"If they would encounter dangerous driving, if their safety or indeed their lives are put at risk" they could record and report it, he said.
