The man’s body was discovered in a house, in the Rattin area of county Westmeath, around 6 kilometres from Miltownpass just after 6 o’clock yesterday evening.

The man believed to have been in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Gardaí are currently treating the investigation as ‘the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances’.

The State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been called in, to assist local Gardaí in the investigation.

The coroner has also been notified, and a post-mortem examination is likely to be carried out of the man’s body today.
