The teenage activist has been recognised for her work surrounding climate change awareness.

Greta Thunberg has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

The teenager has been put forward by Swedish politicians Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, of the country's Left Party.

Any national politician can nominate somebody for the Nobel Peace Prize, and three members of the Norwegian parliament nominated the teenager last year.

Zens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, of Sweden's Left Party, said the 17-year-old "has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis" and "action for reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace".

The 2015 landmark Paris climate deal that asks governments around the world to present national plans to reduce emissions to limit global temperature rise to well below 2C.

The nomination marks another huge milestone for Thunberg after she was named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2019.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not publicly comment on nominations, which for 2020 had to be submitted by February 1.
