The Government's been urged to immediately establish a Garda transport unit, following yet another anti-social attack on public transport.
A 26-year-old man was left with serious facial injuries after a homophobic attack on a Dublin Bus at the weekend.

I was antagonized and attacked on a bus. This took place in Dublin where I live. Please see below for further details of the attack. I am extremely shook up by this, I was doing everything to block them out before they got physical. pic.twitter.com/RrkdMPOF7W— Tai? (@TaiHusky_) August 15, 2022
Mark Sheehan was returning home after a night out in The George on Dame Street on Sunday night when the attack happened.
In a disturbing thread on Twitter, Mark described in detail how a group of men approached them and began to confront them in a series of increasingly physical incidents.
He told me to get off before they come down and cause more trouble. No one intervened and the driver took off with the attacker still on the bus. I am completely shook up by this. I spent the following 6 hours in the hospital.

Fianna Fail Dublin South West TD John LaHart says he's fed up waiting for the Government to establish a transport police service:
"I'm growing increasingly impatient at the delay in a proper government response to this. What we need to get to is a dedicated transport police so that whether you or I or anybody of any age or gender or race is open to the random possibility that there may be a Garda on board."
