Leaving Certificate students will not need to wear face masks during their upcoming oral exams.
The Irish Times reports that Perspex screens will be used instead, to ensure clear communication.
The exams are set to be carried out by teachers, and audio recordings will then be sent to the State Examinations Commission for marking.
Rueban Murray, President of the Irish Second Level Students union says, "the whole point of the oral is to access your communication skills", which would be made difficult with a mask on.
Murray is happy with the decision as it is safe, but also enables students to "adequately communicate".
