It's thought it'd entice young players to stay in school
Some Labour Party members have called for soccer to be included on the Transition Year syllabus.
The Irish Daily Mail reports that TD Aodhán Ó Riordáin, who is a big football fan, launched the proposal.
He has support from Senator Mark Wall and Dublin Bay South by-election candidate Ivana Bacik.
The proposal is aimed at enticing young footballers to stay in education.
The TD said that around 30 percent of those playing League of Ireland football only have a Junior Cert level qualification.
Ivana Bacik says that a football academy for boys and girls at secondary school could be a real "game-changer".
While Mr Ó Riordáin said "You can't become a footballer if you're only doing training twice a day."
