The Irish Heart Foundation says it is crucial that people learn how to perform CPR properly, in the wake of Christian Eriksen's collapse at a Euro 2020 match.

The Irish Heart Foundation is urging people to learn how to do CPR properly.

It is estimated that 8 in 10 Irish people would try to give CPR to someone if they saw them collapse, but the Foundation says the most important thing is that they know how to do it right.

The issue is in the spotlight after Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed at a Euro 2020 match.

The quick reaction of a teammate and medics is being credited for saving his life.

CEO of the Irish Heart Foundation Tim Collins has told the Oireachtas Health Committee that knowing how to do CPR properly is the best chance to save someone, and he thinks training should start in school:

"In the last four years we've trained about 300,000 children in about 70 per cent of schools around the country.  We've run out of funding for that, we'd like to move it to 100 per cent."

The Irish Heart Foundation also says there should be a defibrillator app so people can quickly locate one if somebody collapses.
