The disciplinary process involving Enoch Burke is likely to continue - despite the teacher being sacked from his job.

He was formally dismissed from Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath yesterday, following a disciplinary meeting, and has 10 days to appeal the decision.

He was put on paid leave in September, after refusing to refer to a student by their preferred pronouns, and later jailed for breaching a court order to stay away from the school.

Enoch Burke could be fined if he continues to attend Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath.

Court correspondent Frank Greaney says Wilson's asked the High Court to examine ways of keeping Mr. Burke away from the school, until the disciplinary process formally ends:

"The school wants to fine him or perhaps they've also asked the court to consider whether or not they will sequester his assets.

"They do not want to have him committed to prison again so they've asked the court to look at other avenues  I suppose of coercing him to comply with the court order."
