House prices are on the rise across the country.

The latest Daft.ie House Price Report shows house prices have gone up nationally by 2.9 per cent, during the first three months of this year.

The average cost of a home was €261,000 - an increase of 15 thousand euro on the same time last year.

Limerick has seen the largest increase in house price rises of all the cities across the country.

The cost of a home in Limerick rose by 11.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2019, compared to the same time a year previous.

This compares to a rise of 10.3 per cent in Waterford, 9.9 per cent in Galway, 8 per cent in Cork.

and 4.1 per cent in Dublin.

Daft.ie spokesperson, Martin Clancy, gives reasons for the rising prices nationally and in Dublin:

"The Central Bank exemptions are having an impact on how prices are rising.

So in January 1st the exemptions come online for a lot of the banks and extra credit is available on the market and

Certainly compared to last year and this year what we're seeing is a trend of increasing prices at the start of the year, compared to the end of the year.

As we saw last year, inflation is rising in the first quarter of the year."
