Three people have been killed in a crash in Co. Louth overnight.
It brings to five the number of people killed in the past 12 hours, after two people died in a crash in Co. Cavan yesterday evening.
The three victims lost their lives on the N1 at Carrickcarnan in Co. Louth at around 2:15 this morning.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are attending the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for some time, with local diversions in place.
Meanwhile in Cavan a man and a woman in their 60s were killed on the N55 in Ballinagh.
Their car collided with a jeep at around 7 o'clock last night.
The driver of the jeep was taken to hospital as a precaution.
