The incident happened in Mulhuddart yesterday evening.

An investigation has been launched after the death of a man in Dublin last night.

Gardaí were called to the scene of an incident at Castlecurragh Heath in Mulhuddart, where a man in his 20s was found with stab wounds.

The discovery was made at a house shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday evening - he was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and the Garda Technical Bureau has been requested by investigators.

A man in his 20s has since been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in custody this morning at Finglas Garda Station.

Meanwhile, locals in the area are in shock, following the incident.

Two young people said it's worrying to see things like this happen in their area:

"It's not really good for the Blanchardstown area...you just have to be careful with your whereabouts."

"I grew up here and I didn't something like this could happen here."

One woman feels this kind of violence is becoming widespread:

"It's just worrying that it's happening so close to home. But it's happening everywhere, there's not one particular place. It's everywhere."

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station, where an incident room has been set up, or they can call the the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
