A man is recovering in hospital this morning after being shot in the stomach at a house in Dundalk last night.

Residents in Woodbury Gardens thought fireworks were being set off when they first heard gunshots last night.

It’s understood four shots were fired into the sitting room of a property in the estate at around 8.10pm.

A man in his 40s received non-life threatening injuries and has been taken by ambulance to hospital.

A dog at the property is understood to have been shot dead while a large Garda presence remains at the scene this morning.

No arrests have yet been made and investigations are said to be ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage and were traveling in the Woodbury Gardens area of Dundalk between 7.30 and 8.30 pm last night.
