One hundred and seventy Irish people have left Perth in Australia after efforts by the Irish embassy and consulates in the country to repatriate citizens.

They are on a Qantas flight headed for London and will arrive in Dublin tomorrow.

Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has thanked all those who played their part in organising the flight.

Meanwhile, Alitalia has put on special flights between Dublin and Rome tomorrow to allow Irish citizens in Italy to return home, and Italian citizens living here to travel back.
