''If people go out and buy products they don't need to stockpile them, they're going to cause a problem.''

People are being asked to limit their social gatherings in order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.

The Government also says there is sufficient food and medicine in stock and is urging people NOT to panic buy.

They say they know they're asking a lot of the country - saying in order for people to pull together - they have to stay apart.

Health officials are now advising people to limit their social interactions and not to gather in groups of more than 500 outdoors and more than 100 indoors.

This will have an impact on things like concerts weddings and funerals.

The Government is also insisting there is no need for people to panic buy, Business Minister Heather Humphreys says there's plenty of stock available.

''I met with the retailers and dist and they have assured me that here is sufficient supply chains,'' she said.

''If people go out and buy products they don't need to stockpile they're going to cause a problem.

''So i would say there's no need to do that.''

The Government says its not ruling out implementing a limit on how much people can buy.

Ministers say they're asking people to behave responsible and to support at each other.
