
College graduates and people working full-time, represent a third of those on the poverty line.
That's according to a new ESRI study, which estimates the risk of poverty has gone up from 12.4 to 15.6 per cent between 2021 and 2012.
The report also found rents have gone up by a whopping 84 per cent in just under a decade.
Michelle Murphy, from Social Justice Ireland, says young people are being hit hard:
"Concerning would be for people who are in third level education at the moment or a recent graduate is the poverty rate among that cohort. Obviously they're going into the private rental sector. So when you factor in housing costs, the have one of the highest poverty rates in the country, it goes up to 40%"
