One in five people who identifies as LGBTI+ has been physically attacked because of their sexuality.

The statistic is being highlighted as part of the Rainbow Blood campaign, which is a team up between BeLongTo Youth Services and Boys+Girls, to show the importance of Pride Month.

The campaign calls for an end to the violence that affects the LGBTI+ community and appeals for a safer future.

Supporting Rainbow Blood

As part of the campaign, all of the country's independent radio stations, including iRadio, will air Rainbow Blood at 11.59am today.

Chairman of Independent Broadcasters of Ireland John Purcell says radio stations are proud to be supporting the Rainbow Blood initiative.

“We are delighted to work with Boys+Girls Creative Agency to bring the nation this powerful piece of radio which is sure to stop people in their tracks.

“FeliSpeaks is an amazing Irish writer and performer. Joined with independent Irish radio, which is a uniquely powerful medium for bringing people together, we’re proud to bring people this unique piece of audio which combines a powerful message with powerful delivery. It is sure to make a huge impact.”

Laurence O Byrne, Creative Director at Boys+Girls says the entertainment agency was also delighted to be able to play a part in the initiative.

“This campaign has been a privilege for Boys+Girls to work on in partnership with BeLonG To Youth Services. Both press and radio ad concepts highlight the fear and violence that members of the LGBTI+ community continue to face every single day."

You will be able to hear Rainbow Blood on iRadio at 11.59am today.
