The Irish Property Owners Association are calling for social housing support for renters who've lost their jobs.

The Irish Property Owners Association are calling for all tenants who find themselves in the unfortunate situation of losing their jobs should be afforded access to the existing Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme.

Stephen Faughnan, the Chairman of the association says the government needs to put the resources in place to deal with the situation.

He said IPOA's members are happy to work with tenants who need to move to the HAP system.

The HAP is a form of social housing support provided by all local authorities. Under HAP, local authorities can provide housing assistance to households with a long-term housing need, including many long-term Rent Supplement recipients.
