The Association says there should be fines and closure orders for bars and restaurants not checking Digital COVID certs.

The Restaurants' Association of Ireland has called on the Government to clamp down on bars and restaurants that are flouting COVID rules.
At a meeting today of industry and Government officials, the industry was warned that there will have to be compliance if it wants to stay open.
It comes as 3,578 new cases of Covid were confirmed this evening.
CEO of the Restaurants' Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins has said there need to be fines and closure orders for premises that are not making the effort to check Digital COVID certs:
"There are sanctions within the legislation for those that are breaching the COVID regulations. We want to make sure that the inspectors that are out there on the ground now move forward to target those businesses that are continuously breaching, not doing the right thing.
"They know who they are and we would expect that those businesses now would be paid a visit."
Hotline
Meanwhile the Social Democrats believe a COVID cert hotline should be set up to allow people to report non-compliance in bars and restaurants.
The party's co-leader Catherine Murphy says it would be helpful:
"There's a limited number of inspectors from the Health and Safety Authority, and we do get people onto us concerned about the safety of their own workplace, as well as customers."
