Restrictions on gay and bi-sexual men donating blood are easing further today.

Until earlier this year, men who had sex with men had to wait a year before giving blood - before being reduced to four months.

But that no longer applies - with each case now subject to an individual assessment.

Dr Tor Hervig, from the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, says the questions will be personal.

'We will ask in the past 4 months, have you snorted cocaine or any other drug and then if the answer is yes, you will not be allowed to donate.'
