It could take someone earning the average salary between 2-and-a-half and almost 89 years to buy their first home.

Although this depends on where they live.

Research by Switcher.ie has found Roscommon is the most affordable county for a solo mortgage applicant's first home.

The average income for joint house buyers is €83,000 and it could take about 4-and-a-half years to save for a deposit.

For both joint and solo first-time buyers, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown is the most expensive area at €560,000 for an apartment.
