Smart seating and a 'booze ban' are among his top tips.
Trying to sleep on a flight can be challenging, with noisy engines, chatter from passengers and crew, or you may simply be in the wrong time zone and not tired.
Unless you were lucky enough to have bagged an upgrade to business or First Class, you’re likely to be in a fairly cramped seat, jostling for elbow room.
With all issues considered, a sleep expert has weighed in his advice, on how to get the best sleep possible while on a plane.
Martin Seeley of Mattress-Next-Day has said the right seat can make all the difference.
Martin has said passengers should avoid sitting near the toilets as that’s where people tend to congregate and chat.
Instead he suggests to opt for a seat in the same row as the wing.
The sleep expert also suggests avoiding alcohol for the duration of the flight, as it can lower the quality of your sleep.
The air on planes can be dry, which can lead to a scratchy throat, dehydration and eye irritation that can make it hard to fall asleep.
Martin says swap the booze for water before and throughout your flight to stay hydrated and boost your chances of better sleep.
Another piece of advice he recommends is to listen to white noise frequencies - which can block distracting sounds from other passengers.
