Solidarity rallies are being held in Sligo and Dublin today to support asylum seekers and celebrate diversity.

Sligo and Leitrim Labour Party have organised a Refugee Solidarity Rally at the GPO in Sligo at 2pm.

While groups from all over the country are travelling to Dublin for an 'Ireland For All' march, which kicks off at Parnell Square at 1.30pm.

Speaking ahead of today's marches, People Before Profit's Richard Boyd Barrett says people have legitimate concerns over accommodation and the housing crisis.

But it's vitally important those concerns aren't hijacked by the far right.

"Is there any reason to believe that an asylum seeker is somehow more dangerous than an unvetted tourist. I think it's just a racist stereotyping and to be honest it is very similar to the stereotypes, in fact exactly the same, it's a carbon copy of the stereotypes that were used about the Irish in both the United States and Britain."
