The status orange wind warning for eight counties - Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork Kerry and Limerick remains in place until 10pm tonight.
Met Eireann is forecasting that gust of up to 120 kilometres an hour are possible - with a risk of coastal flooding.
Meanwhile, a status yellow wind warning is in operation in the rest of the country until 11pm.
The Road Safety Authority is advising people getting behind the wheel to be extremely cautious - especially in the counties where a status orange alert is in operation.
An estimated 14,000 homes and businesses across the country are without power - ESB say crews are working to fix the problems and updates can be found at powercheck.ie
