Taxi fares are rising temporarily for the bank holiday this week.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland says drivers are entitled to add 20% to the price of metered fares between 8am and 8pm this Friday, March 18th.
TII says it wasn't feasible to calibrate taxi metres to take account of the one-off bank holiday and so drivers will write the extra 20% charge on all receipts.
In previous weeks, taxi drivers said they were looking for a one euro emergency surcharge on fares - to cope with the ever-rising cost of petrol and diesel.
They say they've dealing with a more than 50 per cent increase in costs.
People in Dublin have been reporting walking home alone from socialising in Dublin city due to a shortage of taxis meanwhile.
The National Private Hire and Taxi Association says a high number of drivers have left the industry.
There are currently around 25,000 licenced taxi drivers in Ireland, but only around 18,000 of those licensed are actually working.
