A taxi crisis has existed in Ireland for at least two years, and the industry's concerns were ignored.

That's the view of one operator, responding to reports that people could be 'walking home for Christmas' if the shortage in drivers continues.
The waiting time for tests, and a lack of financial supports throughout the pandemic are among the reasons industry representatives have given for the difficulties people are having when it comes to hailing a cab.
They say the lack of taxis is fueled by a shortage in drivers, with one taxi operator claiming there's been a 'mass exodus' from the industry.
Vinny Kearns CEO of NXT Taxis says people should not have to wait 11 months for a test.
"In the UK, you can become a taxi driver within a month. In Ireland it can take anything up to and I've seen cases where it takes 10, 11, 12 months."
The lack of availability hit its initial peak during the summer months, as many struggled to flag a cab during peak concert season.
Public transport operators such as Irish Rail, Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann have yet announce additional late-night winter services.
