Thunderstorms forecast for Midlands and West as thousands without power further south

Forecasters are warning of more thunderstorms this afternoon across most of the country.

4,400 homes and businesses were still without power this afternoon after supplies were knocked out by lightning strikes last night and this morning.

ESB crews have been working today to restore supplies to thousands in Clonmel, Waterford and Enniscorthy, and repair a large number of smaller outages elsewhere in the south.

While thunderstorms are expected to develop during this afternoon and evening, mainly across central and western counties with a risk of hail and spot flooding with highest temperatures generally ranging 18 to 23 degrees

Met Éireann says the warm, humid weather's creating the perfect conditions for electrical storms.
