The President of UCD's Students' Union Ruairí Power says sexual harassment and misconduct are "huge issues" across Ireland's third-level sector.

Further and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris has officially launched the university's new reporting service for staff and students.

UCD is the first third-level institution to put such a system in place and will also be available to people who have had allegations made against them.

Ruairí Power says it is a direct response to a big problem in higher education:

"It's a very difficult environment for students, particularly women, [who are] faced with huge levels of sexual harassment in the third-level sector and it's a wider societal issue.

"Power dynamics come into this an awful lot as well, particularly when it comes to post-graduate workers and those who feel in a precarious position.  Students on precarious visas as well often fall behind on this front."
