WhatsApp will now let you control who can add you into a group chat.

The messaging service has announced a new update which will give you more control over what groups you're added into, The Verge reports.

Users will soon be able to choose whether Nobody, My Contacts or Everyone can add you into a group chat.

WhatsApp say they're rolling out the update to give users more privacy.

If someone has restricted access turned on, they can still be added to a group. However, the person adding them will have to send a private message to that person with an invite link. Then, the person can then decide whether they wish to join the group or not through the link, which'll be active for 72 hours.

When the new update comes out, you'll be able to change your group chat preferences in Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups.
