Police are investigating a potential hate crime after several men were seen dressed in Ku Klux Klan attire in Co. Down last night.

Images were shared on social media of the men dressed in white gowns, wearing hoods and carrying wooden crosses.

The men were reportedly seen outside an Islamic prayer centre and inside at least one bar.

One of the bars they entered was The Spirit Merchant, which is run by the Wetherspoon group.

Spokesman for the group, Eddie Gershon, said: "They were refused entry by door staff, but pushed past them into the pub. They were told by bar staff that they would not be served."

"They remained in the pub for five minutes, unserved, and then left," he added.
