A man in his 20s has been arrested for dangerous driving after a high-speed chase in County Louth overnight.

Shortly after 4 am, gardaí noticed a car "travelling erratically" on Park Street in the town.

The vehicle failed to stop when requested to do so by Gardaí.

Because of this, a containment operation began.

This came to an end at the Redcow roundabout in the town, when the vehicle collided with a garda car.

The driver was arrested and is currently detained in Dundalk Garda Station.

A man and two women all aged in their 20s were also travelling in the vehicle that struck the garda car.

The three passengers in the vehicle were brought to hospital as a precaution.

Two Gardaí were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for their injuries.

Their injuries are understood to be minor.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the Park Street or Redcow roundabout areas at the time to contact them.
