The vote will take place in just under Two months time
The Presidential Election will take place on Friday, October 26, it has been confirmed.
Candidates can now officially be nominated, it's understood up to 11 want to challange President Michael D Higgins.
As president, Mr.Higgins will automatically have his name on the ballot paper.
Counting will take place on October 27, with the new president set to be inaugurated on November 11.
Among the favorites to get on the ticket are businessman Gavin Duffy and senator Joan Freeman.
While Sean Gallagher, who finished runner-up in 2011, is also considering another tilt at the highest office in the country.
