Health Minister Simon Harris has written to the Attorney General seeking legal advice, due to a recent rise in measles and mumps.
That's being blamed on misinformation and scaremongering from the anti-vax movement on social media, which had led to a dramatic drop off in the uptake rate of vaccines, including the MMR vaccine.
New figures from UNICEF show the number of measles cases in Ireland jumped by more than 200 per cent in the space of a year.
Measles are incredibly contagious and in some cases, can be deadly.
Minister Harris has criticised politicians who have raised concerns about vaccines, and says he wants them to declare if they support the State's vaccination programme.
