Today marks 100 years since the end of World War I

Memorial events will be held across the world today to mark the centenary of the end of World War One.

The Taoiseach joined other world leaders in Paris to attend the Armistice Day Commemoration at the Arc De Triomphe this morning.

Today marks 100 years since the end of the bloody conflict.

200,000 Irish men from across the island served in the war.

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also in attendance.

Meanwhile, President elect Michael D Higgins attended a State Commemoration Ceremony at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin.

Tanaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney is representing the Irish Government at the Belfast Commemoration.

In the UK, Prince Charles will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph where, for the first time, a German leader will also lay a wreath in an historic act of reconciliation.

In London, Big Ben will sound 11 times at 11am, and 11 times at 12.30pm, in time with bells across the UK and worldwide.

Justice Minister Charles Flanagan will be representing the Irish State at a Service at Westminster Abbey - the Queen and members of the Royal Family will also be in attendance.
