A woman in her 30s has been fatally injured after a stabbing in Dundalk, Co Louth, Gardai have confirmed.
The incident took place on Linenhall Street at 2.45pm this afternoon.
The woman was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and was subsequently pronounced dead a short time later.
A garda spokesperson said: “The incident happened at 2.45pm on Linenhall street in Dundalk.
“The victim was a female in her 20s who was seriously injured.”
Eye witnesses said that around eight garda cars and three ambulances are present on the scene.
A Post Mortem examination will now take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being held at Dundalk Garda Station.
