Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow warning, with snowy and icy conditions anticipated.

The warning, issued on Thursday morning, concerns three counties – Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.

It will be valid from 3am on Friday morning (4 February) until 10am on the same day.

According to the national forecaster, icy stretches are expected, alongside the possibility of snow.

The UK Met Office has issued a warning of its own, with similar conditions expected across Northern Ireland.

That warning affects Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry and is also in place from 3am until 10am on Friday.

However, today will be generally dry for daylight hours, outside of patchy drizzle, mainly across the midlands and southwest.

Later this afternoon, a band of heavy thundery rain will move into the north west and west.

Tonight, The band of heavy and persistent rain will clear southeastwards early tonight, followed by cold and clear conditions with frost and possible ice setting in.

Windy at first, but west to northwest winds will moderate away from the west and north coast.

Scattered showers will feed in later, mainly into Ulster and Connacht, some of hail and sleet, with snowfall mainly over higher ground.
