Temporary restrictions have been introduced in Auckland.

Coronavirus has broken out again in New Zealand after 102 days of being free of the virus.

A retirement village has gone into lockdown after residents displayed symptoms of respiratory illness.

Four cases have been identified and all are understood to be members of one family.

Temporary restrictions will be introduced in Auckland for three days from tomorrow so health authorities can investigate.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says schools, most businesses and public facilities must close, and people should stay home.

''First, act if you have covid and the people around you have covid'', she said.

''At level three you're asked to stay at home in your bubble, other than for essential movement such as going to the supermarket or for local recreation''.
