Met Éireann issues weather warnings for 7 counties

There are warnings some rivers may burst their banks.

Seven counties have been told to prepare for rough weather conditions overnight and into tomorrow afternoon.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow warning for Louth, Meath, Wicklow and Dublin from 1am, with heavy rain and possible flooding tonight.

Forecasters it's possible that some rivers may burst their banks.

It comes on top of a warning for high winds in Clare, Kerry and Cork from 11pm, where gusts of 90 to 110km/h, highest are expected in coastal areas and on exposed hills and mountains where winds may temporarily exceed these thresholds.

Meanwhile the national forecast for the coming days isn't exactly inspiring reading.

Thursday will be a cool, blustery day with scattered showers and longer spells of rain. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

Friday will be cool and breezy, with sunny spells and scattered showers, mostly over Ulster. Cloud will increase from the south west during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

But in better news the early outlook for Saturday is mainly dry, with good sunny spells and light northerly or variable winds. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.
