We can keep our fingers crossed for some home-grown success at next year's Oscars as an Irish short film has got a nomination.

The flick by Louise Bagnall, called Late Afternoon, is in the running to win the Best Animated Award.

Fionnuala Flanagan stars in the Cartoon Saloon short film, which tells the story of an elderly woman drifting back through her memories.

The final nominations will be announced in January ahead of the star-studded ceremony in February.

It's still not known who'll host the event after Kevin Hart stepped down following controversy over homophobic tweets he posted.
