"The over 50s have been mistreated by the dating sites for years."

The first dating app in Ireland targeting over 50s has been launched.

The creators of Lumen say it will provide an age appropriate dating community for the thousands of single, divorced or widowed men and women in the country aged over 50.

Many of us find online dating challenging and time wasting but it's particularly tricky for older people.

According to Irish Tech News, 71 per cent of over 50s on existing dating sites said that they would feel more comfortable if they knew the person they were talking to was genuine or had a verified profile.

Lumen, which is free to download and use, is similar to other dating apps but it requires users to upload a selfie which is cross-referenced with their photos, to prove they're who they say they are.

CEO of Lumen, Antoine Argouges, said:

"Do a search of the phrase 'over 50s dating'. The results that come up are embarrassing for the industry. The over 50s have been mistreated by the dating sites for years. I’m excited to see the Lumen team launching an app which finally listens to this audience and specifically targets their issues and needs."

"The majority of single over 50s we know are tech-savvy, active, and looking for their next adventure. But this isn’t the reality we see reflected in the dating industry. Lumen finally provides a contemporary solution which over 50s can rely on to meet like-minded people."
