Fortnite fans are in for a treat!

Galway City is gearing up for its biggest ever video game and YouTuber festival.

GamerFest returns to the Galmont Hotel in Galway this Bank Holiday weekend, October 28th and 29th.

Following on from the hugely successful inaugural festival last year, the organisers have made this year’s GamerFest even bigger and better with a Player Zone, a Fortnite Zone, a Retro Zone and the GamerFest Live Stage.

The Player Zone will have an array of new games for visitors of all ages to enjoy, including Starlink Battle for Atlas and Assassins Creed Odyssey. Fans will also have the chance to try virtual reality gaming.

Central to the festival will be the highly anticipated Fortnite Zone, where visitors can enjoy a range of Fortnite entertainment, including live stage challenges and Q&A's with Fortnite YouTubers.

The Retro Zone will offer visitors the chance to take a walk down memory lane and play the gaming titles that have truly stood the test of time on classic consoles like the Mega Drive, Atari and Super Nintendo.

The GamerFest Live Stage will be buzzing with special guests including John Romero, creator of legendary games Doom and Quake.

eSports competitions will also take place over the course of the two days, where visitors can watch and take part in a range of competitions including the FIFA 19 Tournament, Tekken 7 Showdown and the Fortnite Challenge.

iRadio caught up with one of the hosts of GamerFest 18, Petso of AllCast Irish Gamers.

He said it's a big family event with something for everyone:

"There's absolutely loads to do - there's indie games, there's talks, there's cosplay, there's retro gaming. The Retro Zone is where I live for the weekend. It's got everything from the 80s and 90s. You're gonna have a little selection of everything old school gaming. We're actually bringing our own PlayStation 1 and it's got a really old arcade game on it called Point Blank, so you use little handguns to shoot at things, so we thought that would be a really nice touch. There's loads of arcade-style games and the original Sonics and Marios and stuff like that."

Petso  said one of the highlights of GamerFest 18 is the Fortnite Challenge:

"All day they're going to do a Fortnite tournament so everybody can jump on, and I think they're going to do it based on kills, so the amount of kills that you get in each game. There's a prize for the winner at the end of that. And they also have a golden ticket when it comes to Fortnite as well, so there's a charity there, you donate €2, you get your name in a hat, and whoever gets the golden ticket at the end of the day gets to close the festival by playing Fortnite on stage with ourselves."

Garry and Fionnuala also spoke to Petso about flossing and Red Dead Redemption 2.
