Off duty Meath River Rescue volunteer saves a life en route home from DIL

Now in its tenth year, the annual Darkness into Life event took place in fifteen counties nationawide in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two hundred thousand people took part in the event to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention charity Pieta House.

A Meath River Rescue volunteer is being hailed a hero after helping a person who was in distress at Flowerhill bridge in Navan at aound 10am on Saturday morning.

Taking to Facebook, Meath River Rescue said "Rennicks was returning home from the Darkness into Light walk in Navan when he noticed a person in distress on the bridge. Jamie and some member of the public who was passing at the time tried to talk the person down off the bridge but they entered the water."

"...Jamie retrieved the person from the water where they were handed over to the HSE where they will recieve the help they need"

The Rescue Helicopter,Navan Fire and Rescue Services,Navan Gardai and the HSE Ambulance were also in attendance.
