Snow days - we live for them.

A day off from school or work to cosy up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and Netflix.

That's why we loved Storm Emma...for the first two days. We built snowmen and igloos, we had snowball fights, we watched movies (ALL the movies) and we ate everything in sight (apart from bread!).

Then after day three, cabin fever set in. The novelty of snow wore off, we grew sick of tea (after the twentieth cup) and we became extremely bored despite Netflix.

Now that it's safe to leave our homes and take to the roads, we've put a guide together to help you give cabin fever the boot and get back into the real world.

1. Make a point of NOT asking people how they survived the cold snap. We know the weather is a staple of conversations in Ireland but you'll just have to find something else to chat about.

2. Purge your house of all chocolate and treats. You need to return to some type of regular eating pattern, and fast!

3. While you're cleaning out your fridge and kitchen press, throw open the windows in your house and do a bit of dusting (and hoover up all the biscuit and crisp crumbs on the couch where you've been hibernating!).

4. Go for a walk or a run or a cycle. Any physical activity in the fresh air really.

5. Don't watch TV for at least a week. You need to undergo a Netflix detox so you can actually enjoy it again. And let your eyes recover!

6. Plan an activity with your other half/kids/housemates. And not the cinema! You've probably been losing the rag with each other being cooped up inside the house. Now, go out!

7. Wash your comfy hoodie/tracksuit/dressing gown in which you've been living in for the past week. We know it's tough to return to more fitted clothing but it has to be done.
