Not what you want to hear if you're dating anyone with a beard! Or have one yourself...
Mildly disturbing research has revealed that almost 50 per cent of male beards have traces of faecal matter - even when washed the same day.
Scientists swabbed and analysed men's beards to discover what gross germs are nestled beneath the surface.
And what they found was that on 47 per cent of the men sampled, the microorganism 'Enterococcus spp' was present, which is also found in the human bowel...
But why?!
Well, recent surveys have also shown that around 60 per cent of men don’t wash their hands after using the toilet... Which could help explain the disturbing amounts of bacteria found in male facial hair.
A spokesman for Fragrance Direct who commissioned the survey with scientists from Manchester Metropolitan University said: "Caring for your beard is essential for its health, helping it stay fresh to keep the bacteria at bay.
"Everyone knows to shampoo their hair, but beards need some attention too. Men should use beard shampoo when they shower, along with conditioner afterwards.''
There you go lads... Hygiene!
