Ireland. 2018. The Pope is coming to visit. We're getting a special emoji to mark the occasion. Yes. That's where we're at people.

Ireland's preparing for the visit of Pope Francis and Twitter has prepared a "special" way to welcome him.

Twitter will tomorrow launch a new emoji to celebate the historic visit.

The emoji will be triggered by the following hashtags: #PopeInIreland, #PápaInÉirinn, #WMOF2018 and #FestivalOfFamilies

Twitter has previously unveiled similar emojis to celebrate the Pope visiting the United States and Latin America. The emoji is an acknowledgement that the visit of Pope Francis for WMOF2018 is being closely watched by people all over the world, and especially in Ireland. The emoji includes an image of Pope Francis in front of the Irish flag.

Commenting on the special Twitter emoji, Karen White, Director of Public Policy for Europe, said: “The visit of Pope Francis is one of the biggest events happening in Ireland this year and naturally many people will be using Twitter to discuss his time here. We want to encourage everyone across the world to join the conversation on Twitter about his visit to Ireland so we’ve created this special emoji for people to use.”
