Storm Emma: Thousands without power as blizzard sweeps through country

Thousands of people are without electricity this morning after heavy snowfall and high winds overnight.

ESB Networks are reporting a number of outages, with Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow worst affected.

It's reported power won't be restored to some parts until at least 8pm this evening.

ESB Networks is asking customers to check powercheck.ie for updates.

Blizzard conditions are set to continue today. We're being urged to stay indoors until this evening.

Met Éireann's updated its weather warnings. A status red snow-ice warning is in place for Munster, Leinster and Galway until 6pm this evening.

While a status orange snow-ice warning is in place for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo until 6pm.
